Franklin, North Carolina Festivals
Franklin Folk Festival • Held the 3rd Saturday in July

Always held the third Saturday in July, the Annual Franklin Folk Festival is sponsored each year by the Folk Heritage Association of Macon County. This group's mission is to preserve and educate about the rich heritage of Franklin, NC and Macon County.

The event has a different theme each year to emphasize a particular part of the pioneer days of this part of Western North Carolina. This is done through a total of 100 living exhibits and demonstrations to allow visitors to experience what mountain life was like way back when. Exhibits include everything from quilting and milking cows to Moon Shinin' and Civil War reenactors.

A full day of Folk Festival activities gets underway on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. The streets of downtown Franklin are packed with live demonstrations by people who grew up in these mountains. These folks learned at their parents’ knee woodcarving, moon shining, basket making, weaving and spinning, and all the many other things they’ll be demonstrating.

Civil War Re-enactors are also encamped just two blocks below Main Street during the festival. Don't miss the candlelight tour of their camp along with the Civil War Fashion Show and skirmish reenactments.

Visitors to the Franklin Folk Festival are in for a fantastic time. In addition to all the demonstrations and arts & crafts there's a full schedule of outstanding mountain music and plenty of “heritage” food. Admission and parking for the event are FREE.
