Hundreds vie each year for the $100 cash prize for rolling their pumpkin the farthest down Phillips Street, in Historic Downtown Franklin, North Carolina. Hundreds also line the street to watch the pumpkins careen, bounce, and even go airborne in this family friendly activity. Historic Downtown Franklin is transformed into a giant autumn playground full of activities to be enjoyed by every member of the family. Activities include a wide variety of live entertainment including great music and roving street performers. You can also participate in many different contests from traditional to a little quirky. The most popular is the "World Famous Punkin Roll" down Phillips Street (see left). Nearly 1,000 people tried their hand at winning the prize last year and each year keeps getting more exciting as pumpkins large and small try to navigate the longest roll without losing their composure. Other events of the day include costume contests, pumpkin pie eating contest, and more. Plus, there are dozens and dozens of traditional arts & crafts booths, great festival food and great shopping in downtown Franklin. In fact, this festival is so large we close Main Street and open it up to festival goers only. Of course there is no admission charge and you'll find plenty of free parking around Franklin, NC.
